A typical fourteen-year-old likely spends her time shopping, sleeping in and socializing with friends, both in person and digitally. Ava Anderson was not your typical fourteen-year-old. At that age, horrified by an EWG report that discovered dangerous chemicals in teen urine, she began researching the health effects of the chemicals found in personal care products.
She tossed her family’s supply of lotions, shampoos and makeup since they were not up to her newfound standards of safety. Unable to find products that were safe enough, Ava and her mom Kim founded Ava Anderson Non Toxic in 2009. The focus: Quality products WITHOUT harmful chemicals.

Toxic Facts
- Europe bans 1,371 toxic chemicals from their personal care products, and the U.S. bans only 11. Why?
- Many personal care products (from soaps and lotions to makeup and perfumes) contain neurotoxins, endocrine disruptors, allergens and carcinogenic ingredients that are hazardous to your health.
- Products marketed as “safe,” “natural” or “hypoallergenic” can still contain toxic chemicals. And the FDA does not regulate personal care products. Learn about other safety myths.

Ava Anderson Non Toxic (AANT) created their products in order to share the message about the hidden dangers of our personal care products. AANT offers safe alternatives for everyday living, and their line includes items for beauty, baby, home and pets.

Dreamy Products
I’ve been using the Dream Cream from Ava Body line, and I love it! The scent alone is to die for. (With safe ingredients that include flower extracts and organic oils like vanilla, sweet orange and coconut, how can it not be?) I also love how smooth and creamy it feels on my face – like a protective coating. I have some mild rosacea, which has noticeably toned down since using the Dream Cream.
I was intrigued to learn that the Dream Cream began as a diaper cream in the Ava Baby line, but so many moms were using it for themselves—and loving its effects on their skin—that Ava adapted it as a body cream (making it thinner and adding vanilla bean extract and sweet orange essential oil).
While I haven’t tried them on my face yet, I participated in a comparison demo of the four-piece Ava Skin set (cleanser, exfoliator, toner and moisturizer) on my hands. I tried all four products on the back of my right hand, and the difference was immediate. Compared to my left, my right hand appeared smoother, softer and less red after only one use. Hi Kimberly O! When I first started as a consultant I was amazed at how many uses there were for our Pet Deodorizer! It’s great for any kind of stain you might have. You can use it on pet bedding (add 1 or 2 tsps with a laundry detergent pod to washer), deodorize shoes/work boots/sports equipment/gym bags, car upholstery, coolers (wash with dish soap, then spray), garbage cans, diaper pails, and as a carpet stain remover. Hi Kelly D the body butter feels fantastic and smells great! During the winter and now with the start of summer we do “handcials” at many of our avaHOURS with the lemon body sugar scrub followed by the body butter. You can see and feel the difference right away! The hand and body lotion is fantastic too! My aunt who uses lotion daily, tried the hand and body lotion and loved how it made her skin feel. A few days after using it she went back to her old lotion and hated the way it felt and realized it wasn’t as moisturizing. She then ordered two more hand and body lotions just to make sure she never runs out

I would love to try the Ava body deodorant. I do NOT use deodorants with aluminum in them, but it’s hard to find something that actually works.
Hi Alison! The deodorant was one of the first Ava products I used before becoming a consultant. My husband also uses it and we both love it! The deodorant has a subtle peppermint scent (and in the past I have never liked the scent of any other deodorant). Since you already use ones without aluminum I think this could work well for you right away. When someone starts with a natural deodorant for the first time we let them know it can take 30-90 days for your body to detox from the chemicals that were in previous deodorants/Anti-Perspirants used. Keep in mind some people find “warming” up the deodorant with a hair dryer or your body heat can help with the initial application. In the beginning when I was getting my old deodorant out of my system I also used the toner to combat the body odor I experienced. Ava has a 30 day return policy so I’d say go for it

Deodorant!! Finding one that is toxic free but still works is our family’s battle. I love trying new ones out to see if they actually work.
There are so many Ava products I would like to try! I guess I would pick their Ava Shampoo since I have to narrow it down to one product. I have yet to find a natural shampoo that I truly love. The Ava Shampoo sounds great though!
I think the diaper cream will be great for my niece. She very easily gets diaper rash, and this would be something new that my sister-on-law could try!

Our peppermint candle (a nice subtle scent) is on sale now since it is going to be retired. I also like the lavender one for relaxation and the chai tea just has a little bit of spice. Our newest candle is lemongrass. It has a nice citrus scent to me that is invigorating. All the candles smell good and are not over powering! It’s always good to know what is in your candles.
