Eco Mom’s Top 5 Eco-Friendly Deals This Week

  • Harmony Organic Green Tea at Big Lots: $4.00. I’m a daily green tea drinker. Coffee is a bit harsh on my system, and I find a morning cup of green tea wakes me up without any body jitters or dashes to the bathroom. Check out the health benefits of green tea. My favorite green tea comes in a large bag of loose leaves my friend brings back from China. But we run out of that fairly quickly, and so when I stumbled upon this deal at our local Big Lots, I snatched it up. Organic tea in non-bleached bags – yay! My one gripe: I wish they’d taken a page from Celestial Seasonings’ book and put the bags in loose instead of enclosing them in individual packaging. Harmony also makes white, oolong and jasmine teas.
  • Boiron Arnicare® Arnica Gel from Vitacost.com: $8.99.
I love homeopathic arnica (from the plant Arnica Montana) for muscle aches and bruises. It seems I’m rubbing some on myself or Sofie every other week. It beats ingesting anti-inflammatory pills, andscientists have seen evidence that it works well for pain relief including arthritis. This deal from Vitacost is about 40% less than the usual price, and one small tube lasts us a long time.

Eco-friendly deals of the week!

  • Brad’s Organic Vegetable Broth at Job Lot: $2.00.
With the fall/winter season upon us, I go through soup broth pretty quickly. (I’m not yet on the level of making my own broth.) I discovered Brad’s Organic brand at our local Job Lot, and—once I got past the slightly eerie kid on their logo—I became a big fan. Brad’s makes an assortment of organic foods; we’ve had their peanut butter, salsa and now their broth (chicken and vegetable). It’s USDA organic, gluten-free, preservative free, fat free and contains no MSG. And Job Lot always seems to have it at a low price. (I realize my non-New England readers do not have access to Job Lot – but you can still buy Brad’s online!)
  • Far East Classics Organic Udon Noodles at Job Lot: $1.00
What goes better with organic broth than organic noodles? They were so good, we ate them all before I could take this product shot. Another amazing Job Lot find, these noodles are made of organic whole wheat flour and sea salt. Perhaps they’re so cheap because the company is going out of business, as I could not find Far East Classics anywhere online except for these nutrition facts. At a buck a bag, we stock up and usually eat these noodles in a vegetable or chicken soup.
  • All Terrain Kids Lip Armor at Vitacost.com: $2.82 for 2-pack
Since Sofie got into lip balm, I’ve been a stickler for finding chemical-free brands that don’t cost a fortune … since she often loses the sticks or twists them until the balm falls out. On my last Vitacost shopping spree, I found this All Terrain Twin Pack: petroleum free, paraben free, cruelty free. The ingredients are all natural (sweet almond oil, shea butter, beeswax, hemp…) and it provides SPF25 protection. Sweet. I may check out their sunscreens next, as they have been top-rated by the Environmental Working Group.
