Daylight Savings Time is two weeks away (March 10), which inspires hope that spring is just around the corner. After a snowbound winter, I yearn to fling windows open so that fresh air filters into my home. I want to de-clutter every corner and trade in the flannel sheets for lighter, whiter, cooler fabrics.
In my dream home, I’ve always envisioned a complete bedding overhaul down to the organic cotton and wool mattress with natural rubber core. With one-third of our lives spent sleeping, quality bed linens seems a no-brainer.
While I haven’t made the investment yet, (I did purchase organic cotton sheets for Sofie, but she inevitably prefers the gifted polyester-blend Disney fairy ones) it’s still my long-term vision. So when Live Good approached me to review one of their eco-friendly home goods, I jumped at the chance.
Launched in 2012, Live Good’s mission is to create quality, luxury products that reflect environmental responsibility. They only use 100% certified organic cotton. They source sustainable, renewable materials. They craft their products locally in California. You and your children can sleep better knowing all their products are free of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and irradiation. (For reasons why organic cotton is a better choice, read the Environmental Justice Foundation report, The Deadly Chemicals in Cotton.)
This young company’s line of home goods is small but growing. It currently consists of sheets and duvets, decorative pillows and a Baby Collection. Live Good products have been featured in magazines such as Dwell and Pregnancy and Newborn.
For review, I received one of the adorable Endangered Species baby pillows—the African lion—a creature I didn’t even realize was threatened! My animal-loving six-year-old is in love with it, of course, and keeps spiriting the item away from me.
The pillow cover is cotton sateen with fabric tie closures in back; the animal image is screened with formaldehyde-free, water-based inks. The organic cotton pillow insert is stuffed with fibers from the kapok tree, a moisture-resistant, mold-resistant and hypoallergenic alternative to down filling. (The rainforest kapok tree does not need to be cut down to harvest its fiber.)
At 14” square, the pillow is soft and adorable and an excellent starter piece in achieving my chemical-free bedroom utopia.
